| Troop 256 Court of Honor
April 21st 2010 | |
What
a wonderful Court of Honor!! Before the evening was over, the
young men of Troop 256 had qualified for seventeen rank advancements
and had earned forty six merit badges!!!!
Zack Galaviz
did a masterful job of conducting the Court of Honor. As someone
said, "he could certainly conduct any meeting including our Sacrament
Service." David Cole led several members of the Troop who were
completing their Second Class requirement for Care of the Flag in our
Flag Ceremony and the reciting of the Pledge of Allegiance. The
Opening Prayer was offered by Owen Moss and Brother Lavar Thornton
officially opened the Court of Honor. Gregory Savage shared some
great comments on the last campout and Jared James did a wonderful job
of explaining the growth he has received so far in his scouting
experience.. Cub Master, Troy James, presented Colton Williamson
with his Arrow of Light and 11 year-olds' scoutmaster, Wade Mease,
welcomed Colton into Troop 256 and the 11 year-olds' Patriot Patrol.
Brother Mease then presented the following Rank Advancements and Merit Badges.

Brother
Mease gave the Scoutmaster minute and the theme was "it is the growth
that we receive in the qualifying for rank advancements and the earning
of merit badges that counts." He also shared how Boy Scouts of
America had come into existence 100 years ago and how the Church of
Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was the first institutional sponsor
starting just three years later in 1913. He pointed out that the
overall purpose for being on this earth tied into the scripture found
in Moses 3:19 (This is My work and My glory to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man)
and included the following quote from President Monson from an article
in the Ensign from November of 1993 "Scouting helps our boys to walk
uprightly the priesthood path to exaltation".
Brother Lavar
Thornton then commented on the strength of this group of youth and how
the youth, parents, and scout leaders all work together to make this
work as well as it is. He then officially closed the Court of Honor and
then the Colors were retrieved, Jacob Wing gave the benediction and
blessed the refreshments which were then consumed.
All in all a wonderful evening. A huge thanks goes to the unsung heros behind the scenes...our merit badge counselors in the Ward. Without them none of this could be accomplished as well.
